Название: Russian Bugle Calls
Отправлено: Acebone от 24 мая 2007, 18:01:30
Dobre Den !

I am a 40 yrs old comeback trumpet player from Denmark ( Dania or Datjani I think its called in Russian )

Throughout history, the military has used the trumpet for signaling orders from the command out to the soldiers.

The U.S. Cavalry bugle calls (http://bands.army.mil/music/bugle/) are known by almost everyone, but I wonder if similar calls were used in the various russian/soviet service branches?

If they were - is there a place where I can either hear them OR get the sheet music for them ?

Thanks in advance !

Oh you speak some danish ? Well - god aften to you too :)

That's a very nice site - but all I can find there is marches. I am more after the single trumpet call for 'attack', 'retreat' etc....

It is very difficult to navigate the site - although I do read a bit Cyrillic, I don't understand russian.

Welcome to our site!

Yes, like in each army of last ages there were a lot of different signals in Russian military forces.
The first speakings about it are in Middle Ages' chronicles like "Zadonschina" and the power of army was determined by the number of trumpets in it.

These calls were very important in ruling the regiments on a battlefield. Under the message you can see pictures with trumpeters of Moscow Dragoon and Ekaterinoslav (now - Dnepropetrovsk) Сuirassier regiments of the 1812 War against Napoleon.

There was a book with signals published in 1908 in St. Petersburg and named "A collection of infantry signals and marches - attachment to a Drill Regulations of Infantry"

I have no information about this book.

The most popular calls are
"Hear everybody", "Stand up", "To the exersices", "Assembly", "Notice", "Breakfast, dinner, supper", "Fire", "Run" etc.
I don't know where to download them for free but thea are for mobile phones in internet shops.

US bugle calls are not known to us but much more - Pioneer signals.
As Alexandra wrote, in Soviet age there was a semi-military teenager's Pioneer organization and it's section for underschool children. Like in army they played signals on bugle.

If you are interested I can give you notes of old Prussian Cavalry calls - this book I have because of playing the natural (baroque) trumpet  *04

We speak about army signal - not about marches

Thnx for all the answers guys !

AKart - if it is not too much trouble, could you give me a link to a page with the ringtones ? If one can preview the ringtones - it would be a small matter to write them down as music.

I have no chance whatsoever of finding them myself, because of the Russian language.

I'd also like to see the Prussian book you mention, all though Prussian signals are not the focus of my question - do you have it as a computer file ?

There is a very particular reason I am interested in russian infantry signals - I used to fly a flight simulator called Il2-Shturmovik, and even started a squad ( russian: polk ). I'd like to play and record the signals for my old 'Tovarashi' still flying in that squad ( homepage:  69.GIAP (http://giap.webhop.info) ).

Regards

Oh man - these are just the sort of thing!

Especially the second link (071) seems to be bugle calls.

Are they russian infantry signals ?

Too bad I can't read russian. I'd like to know what they meant. However I have a bulgarian friend who can help me out on that one :)

not exactly. at least not all of them.
071 - those are signals used by pioneers (kids) in the organisation we already discussed)
141 - not all of them are military signals. but the last two are used in military parades (I'm not sure about the very last - it's St.Petersburg's special occasion fanfare, but second last - Moscow special ocasion fanfare - for sure)
